Ladies' Golf Taster Day in Oldham

A relaxed, fun afternoon for women who'd like to try golf, even if you've never picked up a club before.

Fancy Trying Something New?

Maybe your partner plays golf. Perhaps your children play and you've wondered what all the fuss is about. Or maybe you've simply reached the point where you'd like a new hobby, more time outdoors and something that's just for you.

Whatever has made you curious, our Ladies' Golf Taster Day at Crompton & Royton Golf Club is a relaxed way to find out what golf is really like.

You don't need to be sporty. You don't need your own clubs. And you definitely don't need to know the rules.

Come along, meet other women who are trying golf too, learn a few of the basics and enjoy the afternoon.

Never Played Golf Before? Perfect.

This afternoon has been designed especially for beginners.

You might never have held a golf club. You might have tried hitting a few balls years ago. Or perhaps you've spent plenty of time around golfers without ever having a go yourself.

It doesn't matter.

There will be no expectation that you know golf terminology, understand how scoring works or can hit the ball perfectly. The whole point is to give you a friendly introduction and let you enjoy trying something new.

You can come with a friend or come on your own. Either way, you'll be alongside other women who are there for exactly the same reason.

This isn't about being good at golf. It's about giving it a go.

Meet Karen Heywood

Your session will be led by Karen Heywood, Head PGA Professional and PGA Director of Golf at Crompton & Royton Golf Club. The club's Professional Golf Academy supports people learning the game from scratch as well as established golfers looking to improve.

Karen's approach to the taster afternoon is friendly and beginner-focused. There won't be a barrage of technical golfing language. The aim is to show you enough to start enjoying hitting shots, putting and understanding how golf works.

And if there's something you're unsure about before booking, you're welcome to speak to Karen directly.

No Clubs. No Golf Outfit. No Experience. No Problem.

One of the easiest ways to put off trying golf is to assume you need to buy things before you've even started.

  • No golf clubs needed

  • No special golf clothes needed

  • No previous experience needed

  • No knowledge of the rules needed

  • No need to come with someone

Just wear something comfortable, bring yourself and be ready to try something different.

What to Expect on the Day

Your taster session will introduce you to golf without overloading you with technical information.

You'll learn some of the basics, try different clubs and have a go at putting and driving. We'll explain a few simple rules so the game starts to make sense, and you'll get the chance to meet members of the Ladies' Section.

And once the golf is finished? There's Prosecco afterwards, giving everyone time to relax, chat and enjoy the social side of the afternoon.

You'll get to experience golf rather than simply hear somebody explain it, and you can decide for yourself whether you'd like to do it again.

Why Try Golf at Crompton & Royton?

Crompton & Royton Golf Club sits on the edge of the Pennines between Oldham and Rochdale, with views across the surrounding countryside and city landscape.

But a beautiful golf course isn't much use to a beginner if they don't feel comfortable walking through the door.

That's why the atmosphere matters too.

The club has a welcoming Ladies' Section and an established social side both on and off the course. The aim of the taster day is to give you an opportunity to experience that environment without feeling that you need to be an experienced golfer or a member first. The club's own membership information describes a strong social environment alongside its golf activities.

There's a clubhouse to enjoy after your session and parking at the club, so you can arrive, settle in and concentrate on enjoying the afternoon.

For women looking to try golf from Oldham, Royton, Crompton, Shaw, Saddleworth, Rochdale or North Manchester, it's an opportunity to discover the game locally.

What should I wear?
