Charity Shield 2026 – Competition Results and Prize Winners

September 8, 2026

Crompton & Royton Golf Club welcomed players from across the local golfing community for the 2026 Charity Shield on Sunday 6th September, with a competitive day of golf raising funds for this year’s Captain’s chosen charities.

The competition produced some excellent scoring, with Alena Whitehead and Chris Whitehead of Cleckheaton Golf Club taking the overall title with an impressive net score of 63.8.

Charity Shield Prize Winners

Alena and Chris finished two shots clear at the top of the leaderboard and each received a £70 Crompton & Royton Golf Club Pro Shop voucher for their winning performance.

Second place went to Gillian Bricalli and Gerardo Bricalli of Hart Common Golf Club, who returned a net score of 65.8. They each received a £50 Pro Shop voucher.

Completing the top three were Justine Hadfield and Lee Butterworth of Ashton-under-Lyne Golf Club, finishing with a net score of 66 and receiving a £40 Pro Shop voucher each.

There was also success for the home club, with Emily Halstead and Jack Morrow of Crompton & Royton Golf Club recording the day’s Best Gross score of 75. Their performance earned them a £30 Pro Shop voucher each.

Nearest the Pin

Two nearest-the-pin competitions were contested during the day.

On the 4th hole, Brenda Keaney of Crompton & Royton Golf Club produced the closest effort, finishing just 2.23 metres from the pin.

The prize on the 6th hole went to Andy Mather of Rochdale Golf Club, who went even closer with an excellent shot to 1.85 metres.

Both winners received two bottles of wine.

Two 2s for the Eatons

There were just two 2s recorded during the competition, and remarkably both came from the same pairing.

Nikki Eaton and John Eaton of Bury Golf Club recorded a 2 on both the 4th and 6th holes, earning six golf balls for each one.

Supporting the Captain’s Charities

As well as providing an enjoyable and competitive day on the course, the Charity Shield also helped support two important local causes.

A total of £100 will be donated to the Captain’s Charities for 2026 – Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and Andy’s Man Club.

Crompton & Royton Golf Club would like to congratulate all of this year’s prize winners and thank everyone who took part in the competition and helped make the day a success.

A particular thank you also goes to Kevin Jackson and Steve Field from the Handicaps and Competitions team for their work in organising and administering the event.

Congratulations once again to Alena and Chris on becoming the 2026 Charity Shield winners, and thank you to everyone who supported the day.
